We are Learning About:
Halloween Treats Please....Please email our Room Parent (Tamara Wall ) if you want to contribute or you can email Mrs. Ross too. Thanks to two families who are contributing already! Please remember we are trying to have a healthy balance of food so we are asking for veggies, fruit, cheese & crackers, and 1-2 treats). Please let Tamara know if you want to contribute so we can make sure there is a balance. We have 26 students in the class. Please send in a Mason Jar with your childMason Jars.....each child needs one (or a larger, clean, label free glass jar) a soon as possible to plant a plant they will keep. (see previous post for an example in a photo)
Tamara sent an email out last week asking for help in the class and contributions for next Monday, Halloween. Please don't send in food, unless you have emailed Tamara back and she knows. We are trying to balance the food at our celebrations. Remember, Halloween costumes in the afternoon only and school appropriate. We will have multi-aged fun tasks for the first part of the afternoon and then a class celebration for the last 40 minutes or so. This should be a fun day! Home Reading is really coming home tonight!I was sick on Friday, so sorry these couldn't make it home. I have explained expectations to the students. They have 2 books at their level that they are responsible for. If they lose it or damage it, the replacement fee is $5.00. We are tracking the books. Students have their own tracking page, they need to record the books, a rating and the 'letter' of the book. For home reading they should read the book several times, trying to improve fluency (they can record themselves on a Smart Device and watch/listen to self reflect), expression, pauses for punctuation, learning new words, read out loud, read to someone and try to re-tell the main events to someone. When the book has been read several times, feel free to return it (along with the tracking sheet) in the tote bag and I will 'check it in' and the student will select a new book. Library BooksStudents should keep one at school, or both. When they are finished these self-chosen books they can return them to school. The days and times the Learning Commons has a teacher/volunteer who can help sign out and check in books are: Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Students will go in small groups to return and choose new self- choice reading material! These make great fun read alouds!
Can you help? Please send in a MASON JAR or a clean jar with no labels. We need this by Friday.Home Reading!home_reading_at_copperfield_school.docx Clic to see the documen shared with you at conferences. Expect 2 home reading books to come home on Friday in the Copperfield Tote Bag. We will track these books on a Record Sheet also coming home in the bag. Students will need to pay $5.00 to replace lost or damaged books. Read Aloud - The One and Only IvanWe read that Ivan is like Picasso and were surprised by his art! But it makes sense as what does Ivan usually draw? Tell your families (hint: it is what the Minions say)! The Sound of Silence - A song to learn for Musicsafeshare.tv/x/ss58094738c70fd#v The lyrics and Simon & Garfunkel version is here for your practice. Ms. Sayer, our music teacher, is teaching them this song and asks that they learn the lyrics. They may sing a different version, but still need to know the lyrics. Thanks for helping with this!
Math - Critical Thinking Problem from last weekWe complete a Brain Booster a few days a week to work on recognizing key math words, to use an efficient strategy to look for patterns and to organize how we work out the problem. Here is the most recent problem called "Sweet Possiblities": cemc.uwaterloo.ca/resources/potw/2016-17/English/POTWA-16-DP-04-P.pdf Here is the solution to "Sweet Possibilities" cemc.uwaterloo.ca/resources/potw/2016-17/English/POTWA-16-DP-04-S.pdf Character Sketch of Bob - from The One and Only IvanIn pages 32-37 we learned more about Bob! Check out the above character webs to see what we learned about this interesting little character. My Daily Life (Health and Mindfulness)We created a pie graph to show how much time we spend on different tasks throughout the day! Each of our days is unique, although we have some things in common....just like us! SORRY ABOUT THE UPSIDE DOWN pie graphs! No matter which way I take the photo it is imported upside down! A challenge will be to stretch your neck to take a peek! Be careful though....we don't want neck injuries!
Expect an email from our Room Parent soon!We would like volunteers to help read, play math games, assist with Visual Journal covers and donations of food items for our Halloween Celebration in the afternoon of October 31st. Watch for Tamara's email to those of you who have given written permission at conferences a few weeks back. Thank you for being the families of the most wonderful students! It seems there are not enough hours in the day! I strive to regularly update the blog and try my best (I type this as my son is at basketball practice). Please remember to check the school website or chat with your student about events that are going on as well as check this blog for updates. I appreciate your support, as I am sure you understand.
