Today was a whirlwind of personal bests and creativity! Music Monday Recently we have been learning American Sign Language to make our Music Monday performance more inclusive for all. Students should be watching the video and practicing their signs at home, click here to see the video with lyrics. YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR PERFORMANCES: 11:00 am on Monday, May 1, is for extended family (grandparents, etc) 6:30 pm on Monday, May 1, is for immediate family (parents and siblings) These times are to accomodate as many people from our community while adhering to the Fire Regulations of our space. We also had hip-hop artist Shaun Boothe visit our school to present his "unauthorized biographies" on heroes like Terry Fox and Malala. This meshed well with our classroom theme of small but mighty and setting measureable goals ('going lamp post to lamp post'). Dadaist Poems In our poetry unit we have been learning about many different ways to express ourselves. Today we attempted "the cut up technique" which was used by popular artists like David Bowie. Students worked hard to rework lyrics into their own new creations and learn how to draw inspiration from others. Grand Arcade Students are working hard to create their own classroom arcade to raise money for the Alberta Children's Hospital. Science is all around us as we incorporate levers, pulleys, inclined planes and more! Volunteers Wanted !

[email protected] Math Question: We know the QUOTIENT is the answer to a division question, but do you know what the two numbers you divide are called? In this diagram, the 5 is the quotient. This morning the students and staff, along with some amazing volunteers enjoyed fresh air while cleaning up our school yard and playing outdoor games, Wildflower Pond and the community playground. Each BFG had gloves and bags to get the job done! Our resident muskrat made an appearance and there were far too many gorgeous red-winged blackbirds to count (but we had to stop to admire many of them)! For another half of our outdoor time, we played outdoor community building games. There were lots of laughs and smiles to be heard and seen from all! Thank goodness the weather cooperated and the sun made an appearance for most of the morning. We were outside from 9 am to 10:30 am together! Thanks to our most AMAZING STUDENTS for taking this leadership role!
Homework - there are 6 students who are finishing their first draft of their PEN PAL LETTER to Auburn Heights for our Intergenerational Group. Remember you need to have a greeting (Dear Pen Pal), and opening sentence, a paragraph about yourself/school and a paragraph asking a few 'thick' questions. Don't forget to end your letter (Best Wishes, Sincerely, From etc) appropriately and include your first name only.
Also, be sure to edit for:
C - Capitals (names of places, people, things and to start sentences)
O - Organized ideas and paragraphs indented
P - Punctuation (.!?)
S- Spelling - can you circle and correct words you are uncertain of?
We will work on our second draft tomorrow. I will be collecting the homework first thing in the morning! Thank you for self-editing earlier today, Mrs. Ross will edit for homework tonight and give you feed-forward to make your best draft tomorrow in class.
We would like to extend a huge thanks to our classmate's Moms! Thank you Kristen, Jennie, Gillian and Tamara! We loved exploring with you and are grateful you made the time to be with us so we could learn at this amazing place! We had fun learning and thanks for taking care of us!
Students: Please use these images to share about your learning at the National Music Centre last Thursday! What did you find to be extraordinary about Canadian Music at NMC?

We are looking for donations of gently used or almost new 'prizes' (books, toys, small games, items for loot bags, etc). We are also in need of cardboard boxes (big and small), zip ties, masking & duct tape, cling wrap, etc.
This Friday (April 21) we will begin to construct our GAMES with our partners, on our own or in small groups. We will have most of the morning set aside for this building phase.
We are creating this business to raise money for a charity, while learning many practical business skills we will share at a Conference downtown later in May (only 10 students will get to attend)! More on this to follow in the near future.

Field trip to National Music Centre tomorrow (Thursday, April 13, 2017)
Please arrive at school on time. We will leave around 8:45 am to arrive with the most time for our experience at NMC.
Make sure you bring your inhaler or epi-pen if you need one.
Please bring a water bottle, lunch and snack. There will be no access to a microwave, so bring a lunch that doesn't need heating.
We will not be going to the gift shop, so no need for money. Also, teachers will be bringing school iPads for each group to use, technology is not required and should be left at home or in the classroom.
