We will be looking at luminescent materials in science next week. Luminescent materials emit their own light. Please take a look around your house this weekend to see if you have any glow in the dark items that we could use in class on Monday. Items will be returned. Thank you for helping us in our light and shadow exploration! This is an exciting time for our school! Students are hard at work preparing for school grand opening at 1:30 on Thursday, Feb. 2. There will be many dignitaries from the government and school board so unfortunately there will not be room in the gym for families. The good news is that families will have the opportunity to attend the rehearsal at 9:00 am on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Students are encouraged to dress their best for both occasions. We hope you will mark your calendar and come join us for the rehearsal! We hope you enjoy our Alberta Regions inspired paint sample group mosaic!

Today we had an interactive presentation with Physicist Mary from Scientists in Schools. This was our official introduction to our Light and Shadow unit in science. We enjoyed some hands-on experiments with flashlights, mirrors, fibre optic cables and more! Some questions you could ask to spark some conversation include:
We have gotten to the part in The One and Only Ivan where Ivan's (a gorilla who has been by himself in a cage in a mall for 27 years) message is finally being understood by George and Julia (his human friends)! At this part of the book Ivan's 'puzzle pieces' are finally coming together and the humans' have understood he painted pieces that say 'H-O-M-E" and are intended for the billboard. When asked how Ivan must be feeling, students replied with : glad, happy, grateful, confident and excited. What other words could be used to describe this more than happy emotion? Tiny Houses |
