We read in small groups and use strategies to predict, find out new words, to become more fluent and increase understanding of text. Whisper phones to hear ourselves can be used. Quiet spaces to re-read the book once the whole group has read and then come back to discuss. It was nice to see cooperation, sharing thinking about reading in these small groups. Thanks for sending the jars in! We have 26! We are grateful!Remembrance Day assembly is Thursday, November 10th at 10:15 am. All are welcome to this ceremony. We are collecting non-perishable food items for the Veterans Food Bank all this week and next! Please consider sending in food items. Thanks to MS for bringing in 4 items today! We are off to a great start. We will graph our donations daily.
Today we learned more about waste! Here are our "WASTE WOWZERS" (showing growth from when we first thought it was 'litter": Hello! The students in Grade 1 would like to start collecting pull tabs to donate to the Calgary Lions club. Pull tabs are those little "handles" that are needed to open up any type of can. They come from the following kinds of cans: drink cans, dog food cans, cat food cans, food supplements cans and any other can that needs a pull tab to be opened. Volunteers at the Lions club take the aluminum pull tabs to be recycled and the refunded money is donated to help send diabetic children to Diabetic Camp. This collection not only helps the Lions Club but also helps connect our classroom learning to the real world. We will skip count and tally up our total number of pull tabs and by helping others in our community we are demonstrating global citizenship. Our goal is to collect 5000 pull tabs by June 2017. Please help us show generosity by bringing in clean pull tabs to a Grade 1 room and we will be keeping track of the collection. Thank you and have a great day! The Students in Grade One Glebbow Museokit - King Coal (Building Knowledge) Click here. Thanks to all our families who shared food with us! There was so much yummy fruit (4 boxes), veggies, cheese and crackers, and treats galore! The many donations helped make the celebration extra special. I heard a student say, "this is the best party ever because of the buffet"! At Copperfield we are striving for balance, mindfulness and as grade 4 students who are learning about waste, we hope to keep to the 1 veggie tray, 1 fruit tray, 1 cheese and crackers and 1 treat for celebrations. If you want to contribute to our celebrations, please send a quick email to let Tamara Wall (our Room Parent) know, as we had a lot of leftovers that we didn't even get to! I put what I could in the fridge and we may get to enjoy this soon. Click here to add Tamara's email address to your contacts for future use!
