When they arrived at 2:30 : -we shared our chosen charity: The Calgary Humane Society (after much research, persuasive writing, public speaking and democracy in action) -we began brainstorming products we want to make and sell in order to raise money for this worthy charity -we learned about the jobs or positions available to us that are a part of running this business. -we learned about writing an application and how to approach a job interview -we ACCOMPLiSHED A LOT TOGETHER! Watch for student job applications for the following Copperfield School Business: -Chief Executive Officers (2 students) - responsible for making sure timelines are met, smooth running of the business and working closely with all adults (must be responsible and be a confident student) -Chief Marketing Officers (1-2 students) - same as above, but for advertising (spreading the word about our business) -Chief Financial Officers (1-2 students) - same as above, but for money related tasks (making sure we have enough money, counting money -Chief Operations Officer (1-2 students) - - same as above, but for creating the product and making sure quality is to our set standards Other jobs that are part of Marketing might be: -commercial writers, announcement makers, actors, classroom door to door announcers, posters, bloggers, email communication with staff, photographers Other jobs that are part of Finance might be: -persuade/write to get a loan from School Council or other sources, Accounting (count money), Budgeters (make a plan for how we spend money), cashiers, count float at beginning and end of shift, create sales graphs, rolling money afterwards for office Other jobs that are part of Production might be: -making the products we are going to sell, buying materials to build, researching materials and finding least-expensive materials, quality control, create tri-fold for presentation, greeter Every student in grade 4 will be a part of this authentic learning opportunity to raise money for The Calgary Humane Society while learning about running a business! These 'jobs' will be voluntary, but necessary to make sure we are trying our best as a school. Students who exhibit hard work, perseverance, leadership, teamwork and many other important skills throughout the next 3 months will have the opportunity to be one of ten students who will represent our school at the BMO Showcase at the end of May! The teachers will guide students, along with our partners from BMO, Job applications will be posted on the blogs tomorrow (Feb. 14th) and will be DUE in to your child's teacher, in our case - to Mrs. Ross (me) on Tuesday, February 20th. We will be looking for complete answers with evidence to explain thinking and completed by students. We are looking for honesty, legibility, neatness and best effort to prove that the job you are applying for is the best fit for you. In the next two weeks we will create a list of students that Jordan, Gretta and teachers will interview. We discussed this process in class today and we will help you prepare by talking about each step and giving time to practice. It was an amazing way to spend last Thursday on "The Snow Day That Never Was"! What a difference a week makes! Everyone was at school today!
